Watts Sandgate Take Over Race Report
Thank you to everyone that attended the Watts Sandgate Take Over.
Firstly, a special mention to Jason Croston, Michael B, Hermieny, Ethan, Matthew, Georgia, Jodi, Nikita, Michael and
Fee Lockrey for all your help from setting up to signing in, the drinks table, handing out lolly bags, and the awesome photos.
At 4am the weather was looking very average to say the least and the thoughts are creeping in if anyone was going to show up. Luckily, we have some die-hard runners that will run in any conditions rain or shine. As 6AM approaches the runners start to appear and begin getting warmed up for the event.
We had 5 Half Marathoners tackle the 2-lap course. Leading the way for his second fastest half Marathon ever was Jason Croston who was sitting on an extremely comfortable lead and super speedy 3:50 pace. Following along was Brenno, Erica,
Ben and Andrea all having a crack at PB’s. It only took 1:20:43 for Jason to complete the 2 Lap course and taking the top of the podium.
Both Erica and Andrea Set PBs on the Sandgate course, Erica crossing the line in 1:33:09 to smash her previous PB by 5 MINS! Andrea the silent assassin was out hitting her km splits marching her way to an amazing time of 1:50:19 a new PB and to prove how good she is Andrea threw down a 4:46 last KM! Awesome effort by all Half Marathoners!
Not long after the Half started, Michael rounded up the troops for a (Not sure how long but I would say LONGGGG 10K briefing and as the sun came out, they were
off. In the field we had 11yr old Rocco taking on the 10K and WOW what an impressive time 44:35!! Congrats on your run Rocco! Not to be outdone was his Dad Michael coming back into some form with a 39:32 and taking the out the top step for the 10kers. Cynthia Cliff finished in a fantastic time of 53:42 and was very consistent the whole way!! Special mention to David Cliff as he ran his fastest 10K in 5 Years in
a cracking 59:50.
Even through it looked like it would be a wet run, Sandgate turned on the weather and it became perfect running conditions. A massive thank you to all the runners not mentioned above that ran on Sunday, you all ran very well and we hoped you enjoyed the run, hope to see you all at our next event.
