October 4th marked the 3rd race event for 2020 for Team Watts.
Huge congratulations to the event organisers of Jetty 2 Jetty a very well organised event with plenty of happy runners. We are already looking forward to next years event!
15 Athletes tackled J2J, with very impressive results from everyone. 5 PB’s, 3 Age Group Wins and 2 Podiums. Brenno, Jade and Ric running the Half Marathon, Shiloh, Erica, Hermieny, Matt, David C, Cynthia, Heather, Belinda and Chris W tackling the 10K. David B & Dave ran strongly in the 5K event while young Owen smashed out a very fast 3K!
5:30am the Half Marathon kicked off with Brenno, Jade and Ric tackling the journey from Pelican Park up to Scarborough and back. Along the course they will have a few hills to contend with, Sunday markets, head wind and 21.1km of road and footpath. Brenno running very consistent 5k splits on his way to a 4min PB, with a fantastic time of 1:25:12! Not far back was the ever-improving Jade, running through the first half in 44:38 to run a great half Mara time of 1:31:29. Jade also collected the top step of the Age Group Podium as well.
In his first event donning the Watts Athletics singlet Ric, who has been training very well and consistently over the last few months earning a well deserved PB along the way with 1hr 43mins, all the hard work is paying off Ric!
While the half marathoners were on the way back to Pelican Park a stacked list of Watts Athletes were ready to tackle the 10K event. The 10K is proving to a fan favorite during COVID, and just like 4 weeks ago on the Gold Coast everyone ran out of their skin and produced some excellent results. Leading the 10K for Team Watts was our fearless leader Shiloh, hunting her way through the pack and through the first 5K in 18:26. At the half way point Shiloh knew she had to put the hammer down and get moving if she was to look at a top 3 placing. With experience and plenty of km in the legs Shiloh put the hammer down and came home charging passing 3rd position and charging to 2nd overall with a cracking final 5K of 18:12, for total time of 36:39 and NEW PB! Looking for redemption from her last 10K hit out, Erica was determined to beat her previous time of 41:14. Running through the first 5K in 20:16 and in 61st position she was well on track to beating her time. J2J had its fair share of hills and Erica was up to the challenge, having a cracking race running through the pack from 61st to finishing 52nd overall 8th female and 3rd in AG with a well-deserved PB 40:17, Well done Erica!
The always enthusiastic Cynthia and Heather out flying the Watts flag and running very well crossing the line in 55:39 and 55:56 respectively in their preparation for City 2 Surf Virtual event later this month.
Just in front of them was Hermieny marking this her second race in a row and 3rd for the year with an impressive 52:53 finish time. Matthew was out for blood as well showing he has more to give in the running game, smashing his previous time posted at GC Running Festival by 2mins running across the line in 44:50 (With more to give)
Super consistent David clearly had too much caffeine that morning cheering and encouraging everyone. David C crossed the finish line in 1:05:51 making sure all the Watts Athletes made it home and no one was left behind.
It was awesome to see David B have a cracking run in the 5K event and taking out 2nd place in the AG as well. Ran a very nice race and came across the line in 21:56
Last event of the morning featured our Young Watts Athlete Owen looking to podium once again in the 3K event. Owen has been training very consistently achieving PB runs over the Track and Field event. Now it was time to revisit the road and see if he can better last years’ time. Started out very speedy and focused. Before we could make it over to the finishing line area he was coming in fast, crossing the line in 3rd and NEW PB of 10:26! That is an average of 3:28 per KM! Amazing effort. Jetty 2 Jetty is really a family event for Owen and his family. Both Mum and Dad both ran at the event as well, Belinda running the 10K in amazing time of 53:52 and Dave running the 5K crossing the finish line in 33:30. Now to get both you to Tuesday or Thursday run groups 😉
Congratulations to everyone that ran, we look forward to seeing you at training and our next event Gold Coast 50K Festival.
